Learn how to organize a move before setting up the boxes

Organize a move can be a complicated activity in many ways, involves work, order, and effort. Above all, when done for the first time, the procedure requires the application of certain techniques in order to make it as feasible as possible.

An important step, but rarely taken into consideration, is the organization before packing the boxes in which the objects to be transported will be placed. It may be hard to believe but, the way in which this stage is handled will serve to achieve a very positive result.

Here’s a guide that will help you achieve the perfect move.

Step 1: The inventory

The first step has a lot to do with decisions, it is important to know what will go to the new house or apartment and what will stay. You should start this step several weeks in advance.

This task is recommended to be performed quietly and stress-free since it requires a lot of mental effort.

It is advisable to make a list of all the things that you have at your current home in order to determine the following aspects:

  • Which are in good condition
  • Which will be useful in the new house
  • Which will be given, donated or thrown away, depending on your condition
  • What will go to the new house

After making this selection, the load will be relieved and you will have a real vision of the amount of objects to move.

Step 2: Moving date

The first thing is to ask the representatives of the condominium (if the move is to an apartment), what days and at what times they allow this type of process; in that way you can set a schedule.

For example:

  • 22/07/2020 Inventory
  • 25/07/2020 Organization of boxes and packaging
  • 30/07/2020 Moving day

If your new home is a house and is located in a condominium, there will be no need to ask for permission, except for some documents sometimes required by the local authorities; what will be necessary is to contact the company or person who will make the move, in this way, the execution dates of each of the steps can be set in better order.

Step 3: Moving company

At this point, it’s very important to know the number of boxes that will be moved to get an idea of the size of the truck you’ll have to rent. The most logical thing, in this sense, is to talk beforehand with the moving company to set an agreement regarding the date and value of the deal, to have an idea of the money you’ll spend.

It is important to research among the moving companies in the market, each one offer different services; it is about hiring the one that best suits the needs of each user.

Step 4: Packaging

Once all the previous steps have been fulfilled, the time comes for the final process, packing for the move, putting everything in boxes or bags for transfer to the new home.

The following materials are usually needed:

  • Cardboard boxes of different sizes, although they shouldn’t be huge, or else they’ll be too difficult to handle by weight and space.
  • Large garbage bags, are very useful to carry things that are not so heavy or to protect some pictures, in case you do not have paper to pack.
  • Bubble paper works as a protector of delicate pieces.
  • Self-adhesive tape to seal boxes
  • Scissors
  • Markers

Once you have everything you need, it’s time to start packing. The most convenient thing is to do it by room, in that way the unpacking process will be easier and when the boxes arrive at their new destination, then they can be located in the place that corresponds to them. It is essential to identify the boxes with specific details, such as crockery, liquor, clothing, etc.

That way anyone who helps with the move will know where to put the boxes. On the other hand, distribution in the truck should also be taken into account, it is recommended the cardboard boxes used are able to carry no more than 44 lb; ensuring that the sizes are similar, that way they can be placed on top of each other.
