Make a plan: Winging-it will not work. Work out important details ahead of time. On the day of the party you won’t have time to improvise. Do you want a theme? How many people can you reasonably accommodate? What will be on the menu? Is there enough room for everyone to sit? Have a plan in mind for how the event will unfold; you don’t want to be worried about entertaining guests while simultaneously cooking food or setting the table. Thinking ahead will save you a lot of stress on the big day.
Send out clear invites: Invitations don’t have to be expensive or luxurious, but they do have to be informative. An unclear message confuses guests and will cause you more work for you. Fielding questions the day of the event is not something you will want to do. Send out clear invitations through the mail or email. Include time to arrive, time of the dinner, and clear directions to your new home.
Prepare a guest bathroom: Make sure you have a bathroom ready for guests. Stock up on toilet paper, have clean hand towels ready, and make sure all guests are aware of its location. This bathroom will be seeing heavy traffic so make sure it’s ready to do so.
Stage your home: Once guests arrive they will generally gravitate towards appetizers and snacks, use this to your advantage. Place hors d’oeuvres in the parts of your home you want to show off. Have a beautiful island? Lay out snacks on the counter tops. Does your living room have a nice view? Set up a drink station to show it off. The point of the housewarming party is to show off your home, use it’s best features to your advantage.
Put together a playlist: Having great background musics sets the tone for the evening. Pick music for the vibe you are wishing to achieve. If you and your friends love rock music, play rock in the background! Don’t be afraid to be yourself.
